Hardwood Floor Cleaning & Flooring Care Tips
Elegant Floors recommends that you maintain proper maintenance and floor care to ensure
long-lasting beauty of your wood floors.
Preventative Maintenance
Keep out Dirt & Grit: Dirt, grit and sand act like sandpaper on the finish causing scratches and dents. To minimize damage, place floor mats in entryway. Don’t forget to shake out the mats regularly.
Water and spills: Standing water or any liquid can warp finished hardwood floor and can damage the
finish. Simply wipe up all spills as they happen. Also, place floor mats on areas where water may be splashed, such as near kitchen sinks.
Avoid the Hard Stuff : Avoid oil-based soaps as they can build up residues and create problems when it’s time to put a maintenance coat on the floor. Instead use neutral pH cleaners made specifically for wood floors.
Lift & Carry: Lift and carry furniture when moving it — avoid dragging. Felt contacts under the legs helps prevent scratches.
Dents: Traditional vacuums with beater bars can cause dents in your floor – vacuum with a brush
attachment instead or purchase a vacuum especially made for hardwood floors.
Sun: Direct sun can discolor your hardwood floor. Close curtains and blinds or add sheer drapes to
protect from the sun’s intense UV rays.
Tread Carefully: Be cautious of sharp objects that may scratch or damage the floor. For example,
stiletto heels can cause dents and scratches that are not covered by your warranty.
Also, Eegant Floors suggest reguarly trimming your pets nails claws to avoid scratches on your hardwood floors.
