Popular Types of Hardwood flooring:
Strip wood floors typically comes in widths of 2″-5″ that are usually 5/16″- 3/4″ thick. This can include traditional hardwood floors nailed from the top or sides before the sanding, staining and finishing is completed. Pre-finished hardwood floors are either “floated,” glued, or nailed from the side.
Wide strip/plank flooring usually width varies from 5″ to 12″ and can in-clude hand scraped and distressed woods species.
Types of Hardwood Flooring Finishes:
Polyurethane, an oil-based finish, is the most common surface finish. It also gives the richest appearance among all the finishing options, while being a cost effective finish.
Another choice is waterborne finishes. They are considered by some the most durable of hardwood floor finishes available. These finishes are clear, fast drying and resist yellowing and are considered a “green” option. However they tend to cost more than traditional polyurethane finishes.
Types of Moldings & Trims:
According to NWFA standards, when hardwood floors are installed, Elegant… Floors must leave room for floor expansion. We do this by leaving a small gap around the perimeter of the floor. We then reinstall the existing or new baseboard.
With many hardwood floor installations and refinishings, transitional gap or elevation trim is required to complete a finished look and safety.
